Job Purpose and Summary
This is manual work of limited skill in the operation of trucks and lighter highway construction equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of motor equipment. Work usually involves some equipment maintenance duties and the performance of related work of an unskilled nature. Detailed instructions are usually received from a supervisor. Work is performed according to established procedures with frequent inspections during progress and upon completion by a supervisor.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Operates a variety of assigned construction and maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, various trucks, tractor mowers, loaders, rollers and other similar equipment.
Services and performs minor repairs on motor vehicles.
Cleans and does minor maintenance or repair work on assigned equipment.
Reports any defective operations and assists mechanics in making repairs.
Keeps records of equipment operation.
Performs manual labor when not operating equipment.
Performs routine clerical tasks.
Works extended hours, on call 24/7, to assist in the management of normal and emergency operations.
Utilizes a PTC radio system for transmitting and receiving information.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL).
The incumbent must possess an N or X endorsement on their CDL to authorize them to operate tank vehicles.
The incumbent may not have any of the following restrictions on their CDL:
E – Prohibits the operation of manual transmission vehicles
K – Restricts the driver to intrastate driving. Applicable for employment at Trevose, Homewood and Searights locations only.
L or Z – Prohibits driving a commercial vehicle equipped with airbrakes
O – Prohibits the driver from driving a truck tractor/semi-trailer combination
Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Physical Card).

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Position demands include frequent speaking, writing and reading reports. Position requires frequent work at a computer utilizing business programs and PTC specific operating systems. Lifts, carries heavy objects or exerts forces equivalent to lifting up to 75 pounds. Position requires frequent travel and/or fieldwork with exposure to roadway traffic. Occasionally works outside of normal business hours for assigned work assignments. Office environment with low levels of noise, adequate lighting and comfortable temperature. Field environment may include exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable conditions. Physical environment is generally safe, but safety equipment or precautions must be followed in field conditions
