Highway Maintenance

  • PA Turnpike Maintenance Operations

As our largest department with more than 700 employees, the Maintenance department ensures the smooth, safe operation of the Turnpike system, maintaining roadway surfaces, adjacent rights-of-way, equipment, interchanges and buildings.

  • Summer Operations

During the peak summer travel months, our Maintenance department is focused on keeping traffic moving safely and the roadway clearly lined, patched and paved.

  • Winter Operations

Experienced drivers know the Turnpike’s open — even in winter. Join a team that prides itself on making the road passable and keeping customers safe in severe weather.

Miles of Opportunity

We operate 23 maintenance facilities and oversee five tunnels, 2,442 lane miles and more than 3,600 inventoried items including vehicles and equipment. Each maintenance shed (located within one of five distinct operational districts) is responsible for the upkeep of 25 miles of roadway. Safety is a key focus in maintenance, where we work 24/7 to ensure our system is open and safe for more than a half-million motorists per day.
